Vigilante - The Crossing at Cannes Film Festival 2015

Barbados' film industry has produced some cinematic gems considering it is a small, developing industry but the efforts of one of the major players in local film production recently received a big nod of approval from one of the premier film festivals in the world, The Cannes Film Festival.

In its seven years of existence, Step by Step Productions has produced five films, dominated the local film arena and is now taking the world by storm. With huge successes in the three installments of the Hush movie series and Chrissy already under their belt, it was no surprise that that their latest offering Vigilante - The Crossing, which enjoyed a world premiere at the Pan-African Film Festival in Los Angeles this year, is a massive success.

Step by Step Productions has just broken new ground for the film industry in Barbados by being the first to have locally produced film screened for the large crowds attracted by the festival. It screened in Cannes Marche Du Film on May 20th 2015 and is set for worldwide distribution via California Pictures in Hollywood.

Is this the break-though that the local industry needed to garner the attention that those in the theatre art community have been requesting for so many years?

Maybe it would provoke the powers that be in the Caribbean and not just Barbados to take the developing industry more seriously so that film, theatre and the arts in general can grow (possibly into the next major industry for the island?).

In any case, it is certainly an achievement one can take pride in. Congratulations to Step by Step Productions, the entire cast and every one involved in making this film such a success.
